THE GLITZ AND GLAMOUR OF THE 2022 BROWNLOW MEDAL

As the AFL’s night of nights came and went on Sunday September 18, Patrick Cripps’ last minute Brownlow win certainly wasn’t the only thing that had the audience talking.

Since 1924, the Brownlow Medal has been awarded to the AFL’s Best and Fairest player across all 18 teams throughout the home and away season.

In a thrilling last minute victory at Crown Palladium, Carlton captain Patrick Cripps was awarded three votes for his role in the last game of the home and away season. Although the Blues were knocked out of the finals by Collingwood in a gripping one-point loss, Cripps’ effort, sportsmanship and leadership capabilities evidently shone through to the umpires.

Cripps overtook Brisbane’s Lachie Neale and Gold Coast’s Touk Miller to take out the coveted Brownlow Medal.

However, as always, the award itself made up only a portion of the night’s excitement. The wives, girlfriends and partners of the AFL’s top stars flaunted jaw-dropping gowns throughout the night.

Power couple Max and Jessica Gawn looked at home on the red carpet, with Jessica stunning in a glittering, sideless maroon gown from Marquise Bridal. Her captain husband Max was every bit as glamorous, showing off a grey velvet jacket and from YSG Tailors.

Brownlow favourite Andrew Brayshaw was all but forgotten when his partner Lizzie Stock stepped into the room. In a gorgeously flowy hot pink strapless gown and red wraparound from Georgia Young Couture, Lizzie outshone her beau on this star-studded evening.

Also wowing from Fremantle were Sally Mundy, wife of now-retired Freo champion David, and Chloe Furnari, the longtime partner of midfielder Caleb Serong. Sally looked magnificent in a floor-length emerald green shown, featuring a stunning thigh-high split on one side. Chloe shone in a custom two piece black sleeveless gown from Oglia-Loro Couture, complete with elbow-length black gloves.

Josh and Nick Daicos, sons of Collingwood great Peter, stood proudly with their partners Annalise Dalins and Arlette Jones. Annalise, runner up of the 2022 Miss Universe Australia competition, looked incredible in a two-piece white set with a high collar by Oglia-Loro Couture, with her slicked back bun accentuating her stunning features. Blonde beauty Arlette Jones was runway ready in a long-sleeved maroon number also by Oglia-Loro Couture.

Another Brownlow favorite in Lachie Neale was outshone by Jules, his wife and new mum to daughter Piper. Jules looked show stopping in a glittering blue strapless bodice gown by KYHA Studios, letting her perfectly styled blonde hair flow to one shoulder. Caitlin Seeto, partner of Lion’s forward Charlie Cameron, looked a million dollars in a strong green off-the-shoulder gown by Georgia Young Couture.

A jaw-dropping golden gown from KYHA Studios twinkled on the ever-lovely Olivia Burke, partner of Richmond big man Tom Lynch. The dress was a standout on the evening, and was only one-upped by the gorgeous Olivia wearing it.

Also from KYHA Studios was Natalie Docherty’s silky white strapless down with train. Natalie glowed as she debuted her growing baby bump, the first child of Natalie and Carlton defender husband Sam Docherty.

Natalie and Sam weren't the only glitzy parents-to-be on the night, with Brit Selwood showing off her bump in a stunning pink-purple metallic number from Cappellazzo Couture. Brit glittered and gleamed in the backless dress as she watched Geelong great husband Joel accept the Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award on the night.

Finally, Monique Fontana’s royal blue gown shone as brightly as her fiance Patrick Cripps’ newly minted Brownlow Medal. The bedazzled jacquard dress featured intricate details of gems, beads and a stunning train and bow on the front. Monique’s matching tulle gloves were accentuated by the stunning engagement ring on her finger. Patrick popped the question earlier in the year and the couple are set to tie the knot in December.

Though the Blues were pipped at the punch in the finals this year, one thing is for sure: 2022 will surely be a year to remember for Monique and Patrick.
